The Peppermint Place
188 N Main St.., Alpine, (801) 756-7400. A candy factory offering tours and samples. Creative and decorative candy. Also features a gift shop.
Timpanogos Cave National Monument
Rt. 3, American Fork, summer (801) 756-5238, winter (801) 756-5239. The cave has three caverns and can be reached via a 1.5 mile hike (strenuous) up the mountain. Plan on at least 3 hours round-trip. Tours are available with ticket purchase.
Thanksgiving Point
adjacent to I-15 at Lehi, is a huge community gathering place. They feature gift shops, a restaurant, an agricultural learning center with an animal park and expansive vegetable, flower gardens on display throughout the growing season; a golf course and a huge Dinosaur museum.
Kennecott (Bingham) Copper Mine
25 miles southwest of Salt Lake City in Magna, (801) 252-3234. It is the world's largest man-made excavation and the first open-pit copper mine. The observation deck, accessible via 7800 South, is open April through October. This mine can be seen from outer space.
The Ogden Nature Center
966 W. 12th St., (801) 621-7595, is a wildlife sanctuary with indoor and outdoor activities.
Bridal Veil Falls
located just 4 miles up Provo Canyon, is one of Utah's most recognizable landmarks. Double cataract waterfalls drop 607 feet and can be seen from a scenic highway pull-out or by taking an exit to where run-off from the falls meets the Provo River below. A favorite for summer hiking.
The Clark Planetarium
110 S. 400 W., Salt Lake City, (801) 538-2098, offers star shows, exhibits, andlaser/music shows.
The Hogle Zoo
2600 Sunnyside Ave., Salt Lake City, (801) 582-1631, has over 800 animals, a train depot, an events pavilion and a gift shop.
The Tracy Aviary
589 East 1300 South, Salt Lake City, (801) 596-8500, is the nation's oldest public aviary. This bird park hosts a collection of 400 birds representing 130 species. They offer a bird show in the summer and hand feed colorful parrots at the Lory Walk exhibit. Open year-round.
LDS Conference Center
North Temple across from Temple Square in Salt Lake City. This large assembly hall seats over 21,000 and has a four-level underground parking structure. Outside and on the roof, there are 4 acres of landscaping, fountains, waterfalls, plants and flora and a 3 acre meadow. Translation facilities for up to 60 languages simultaneously (second only to the United Nations).
The Wheeler Historic Farm
6351 S. 900 E., Salt Lake City, (801) 264-2241 or (801-264-2212. A children's farm-like park with a Chore Tour to help feed the farm animals and milk the cows, with horse drawn hayrides.
The International Peace Gardens
1060 S. 900 W. inside Jordan Park, Salt Lake City, have botanical displays representing 25 countries. 
Cathedral of the Madeleine
331 E. South Temple, Salt Lake City. This beautiful Catholic cathedral was built in 1909 and renovated in 1993. It's architecture consists of a predominantly Romanesque exterior with a Gothic interior, and features a 4,066 pipe organ and stained glass windows.
The Great Salt Lake State Park and Marina
I-80, about 15 miles west of Downtown Salt Lake is the home of several hundred sail boats that are used on the Great Salt Lake. There is also a visitor's center.
Memory Grove
135 E. North Temple, Salt Lake City, is a popular place fro a stroll or a jog. Several memorials are located in this park.
